Mozambique (often referred to as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean) is known for its extensive and pristine beaches, its luxury Lodges and remote islands, it is also a surprisingly large and diverse country. At some 799 380 square kilometres in extent, it is half-again as big as either Botswana or Kenya. Its widest point it is 1 100 kilometres, but at its narrowest, a mere 100 kilometres.
The highlights of a Mozambique beach holiday are, without doubt, the Archipelagos of Bazaruto and Quirimbas. There are also some wonderful properties on the mainland in and around Vilanculos and Inhambane. Mozambique is also a prized destination as it offers exceptional diving and snorkelling, and has an abundance of pristine reefs, just waiting to be explored – most of which are in protected Marine Reserves.
Recent (and ongoing developments) in terms of wildlife and conservation, includes the work being done in the famed and diverse Gorongosa National Park and the vast, unspoilt Niassa Reserve - both of which now offer some excellent accommodation and experiences. This allows Mozambique to offer Safari arrangements, in largely unspoilt areas, with incredible scenery.
