Ibo Island Lodge is some 71 kilometres from mainland Pemba, Mozambique. The island is accessed by light aircraft flight from Pemba, allowing for some spectacular views of the Quirimbas Archipelago. The Ibo Island boasts a colonial town with old forts, ancient buildings and a fascinating history. From slave trading to pirates, the ruins date back to the early 1500s and the local inhabitants have a shared history with Arabs, Indians and Portuguese visitors. With an air of romantic dilapidation, one may explore the faded grace of a bygone era.
Ibo Lodge is located on a prime waterfront site, with views of traditional dhows setting out to sea on each high tide. All rooms are air-conditioned and also have ceiling fans, and offer en suite facilities, and some have outside baths and showers! Beds are draped with mosquito nets, have antique fittings, hair dryers and hand crafted furniture.
The restaurant and bar at Ibo are delightfully situated on the roof terrace of the Bela Vista mansion facing west, giving you memorable sunsets and spectacular views across the bay. Cuisine includes the freshest of seafood (tiger prawns, game fish, and crab) with Mozambican and international influences.
