Medjumbe Refurbishment

30/7/2015

Medjumbe Private Island closes on  the 1st of August for a makeover, and is due to re-open in late November 2015; the entire resort will be affected.

In the 12 Beach Pool Villas, the plunge pools will be replaced with larger splash pools in a refreshing aqua mosaic finish and the addition of a sea-facing “champagne step” will allow you to enjoy the outdoor beauty from the privacy of your own room with a glass of bubbly in hand. The decks will be equipped with new outdoor furnishings and the interiors of the villas and Spa will be enhanced with upgraded amenities and unique furnishings in a way that remains true to the stylish simplicity of Medjumbe.

The central main building will also receive an upgrade, which will make it lighter and brighter with a fresh new look; the addition of new sliding, stacking windows and doors on the ground level will fulfil the need to keep the space comfortable and dry during all weather conditions; new colourful and crafted lighting will be installed and the Bar will also undergo some changes to create intimacy and enhance the overall guest experience.

Solar Power is also planned at Medjumbe, as Island resorts are highly dependent on the availability of affordable and clean technology for power. The cost of power is high and the process of transporting fuels to the island and burning these fuels to produce power causes high amounts of pollution and environmental disturbance.

The planned system is a 400 kWp Solar PV plant, to be installed with a Solar charger feeding a battery bank that can store up to 1500 kWh energy. The adoption of this technology of Solar Photovoltaics will allow the resort to be powered entirely by solar energy, reducing pollution to almost zero whilst keeping noise levels low and impacting positively on the Island.
